Good morning flower people, 
we went out to a few nurseries t'other day and picked out a few flowers that looked good (reduced).  I'm about to repot due to some of them being pot bound.

I've split a few up that needed it, using hand forks back to back but there is still a thick mat of roots at the bottom.  Can I tease this mat free?

Campanula Telham Beauty, From £9:50 (reduced to £4:00) I've got 9 reasonable plants. Ditto Geum Lady Stratheden with 3 plants.

Good bargain hunting there by the sound of it

I use an old hand saw and cut rootballs up when I am splitting plants.  When you get to the base of the old rootball and get a circular mat of tangled root, I usually cut this away.  So long as the divisions have got a decent amount of root on them they will be fine.  Trying to pull root mats like that apart usually does more damage than anything.

Now then, all plants split up and potted on where needed and transplanted, would they plants benefit from spending the winter in our unheated greenhouse?

Just ordered some Oxalis Versicolour Candy Cane Sorrel and some
Dodecatheon Meadia. 
Shall I sow when recieved or leave untill the spring?
"And finally", can you transplant a plant into too big a pot?

I'd say 'yes' in the winter cos they're sitting in cold wet compost, and, not really in the late spring and summer when they are making lots of new growth, very quickly.

That's the very reason I think moving them all into the greenhouse Mum, for the winter where we can monitor the watering.  Cheers,  Tony.
