Glossy magazines
« on: January 10, 2013, 14:53 »
the usual post Christmas clearout has reveiled a stash of magazines and papers from 'long time back'.

the paper based ones I'll either compost or mash and brick for fuel.

what can I do with the glossy's ? they'll not absorb water for bricking, too old for the doctors, not sure if they'll rot after shredding (open to education there tho ) - are they safe to burn in an open fire ?

They will burn OK in a fire but a bit reluctantly. I find too much glossy paper clogs it all up a bit. Is there nobody you can think of who could use them? You could donate them on Freecycle/Freegle or Preloved or probably even sell them on eBay. :D

If the content is suitable, you could also try your local school, playgroup etc.  I pass on my unwanted gardening mags to a friend for use in her school - the children cut them up for collages, paper mosaics etc.

They will rot down in compost and the inks are usually vegetable based. I actually use paper shreddings as cat litter. :)
