Title: Pampas Grass - WHEN will it flower?
Post by: EzLou on September 25, 2007, 10:04
I have 3 pampas grass plants in pots [terracotta about 18 inches across/deep] - had them for 2 years now.

Still no sign of lovely flowrs - supposed to b2 pink and 1 white.
Legend has it it will take 7 years...really?

Do they prefer sun or shade? Should they just go in the garden? Or will they be ok in pots? We've tried all combinations [lost one white plant after planting it in garden] to no avail.

Advice/suggestions/random stories all welcome

mine are flowering now but im in greece and mine is in the garden and its a monster how big are your plants , i tryed to grow one last year from another one i had , cut it in half and gave some away but the one i kept didnt do well so i gave it away, word of warning if you pland it in the garden it will need a huge space as they grow massive , ours is near a fence and we are allways cutting lumps off it so mext door dont lasserate a vain if they get court in it .we were told that it was the small type , but this type just keeps going .

they are probably root bound . wait till next spring now and break them out of the pots and put them into the biggest pot you can afford . (fruit trees come in great big black tubs .perfect for such things .paint em with sumat u like n throw sand or grit on em this sticks to the wet paint ) give tjem nice new soil 50%compost n loam .. i rckon this will help flower em up next year .. incidently we used to burn ours down after a couple years .this used to reinvigorate it ,not sure if they do that nowadays tho :)
