Title: Double yolker
Post by: yellowpenguin on October 01, 2010, 12:48
We accquired two Raleigh Rocks at the weekend and they are superb hens. They lay every day, and are hardy and friendly. We cracked our first egg this morning from Goldie, and it was a double yolker. What an introduction to their egg laying prowess. Cannot wait till we try one of Gerties tommorow.

the Raleigh rock looks like somebodies version of a black rock. I have a black rock and yes they are good layers although mine is 3 years old and has now gone from 5 a week down to 3 and I hope she will keep going for a few years yet (they are known to still lay the occasional egg when they are 8  :)).

Im still getting very small eggs from my new girls, however Ive had quite a few double yolkers. I only thought you got them from extra large eggs. How wrong I was! There is nothing like cracking one open into the frying pan seeing those perfect little yolks looking up at you. Oooh my mouth is watering! Egg and chips for tea I think, blow the diet!

Haven't had a double yolker yet, but girls are lying tiny little eggs with big yolks compared to the size of the eggs. Delicious!!
