Best way to grow spring onions in my experience is to sow a pinch into each module, then transplant in the bunches; and just leave them be [just weeding carefully], until they are ready about 3-4 months later. I've eaten the ones sown in Feb and March ages ago.

If you sow every month or so, you should have springs all year round - or do 3 larger sowings during spring, early summer and late summer, you should also have springs year round...depending on how many you eat of course.

Photo of them as they were planted out, in April [these were sown into Jiffy 7s in Feb] and then once they were harvested 22nd June....the ones in the 2nd photo got a bit too big really for springs but hey ho...

At the beginning of march i thought i had lost my row of spring onions, Holland Blood red, but a warm week with some rain and they came up, have been using some but they are beggining to make small red bulbs now, so the last few will probably be a jar of pickled onions :D

Now that's a good idea. I do seem to have overdone the spring onions this year, and this is the first year I have had decent ones, so will have plenty spare.

Ta muchly for the idea  :D

I sowed mine (white Lisbon winter hardy) the beginning of November in seed trays and we've been eating them since the end of April. Still some left. They did go from green to spring onion all of a sudden though so I wouldn't give up on them.

This is what I did as well same variety winter hardy white lisbons, but I start mine off indoors.  Any I try to germinate outdoors have never worked for me.

I then either transplant the onions, which was fiddly, or, and this is easier sow indoors in the box I am going to grow them in all spaced out ready and put the whole box outside when they have grown on a bit.  I do this all through the year.

So I have  found the key is to start them off indoors, in my case in the conservatory.

Yes, I spaced them about an inch apart in each direction. A bit more fiddly but they've just stayed in the tray so no work later. Mine germinated fine, they were in a plastic greenhouse not totally outside though.
