Weeding advice...

Newly taken over plot, we have created raised beds and planted various seed in cleared soil, however the seedlings are now at risk of being swamped by weeds, in particular tiny nettles which sting just as much as the big guys! Just wondering how you deal with this, when everything is so small!

You have my sympathy with those nettles. They sting worse that the big ones.

Hoe between the rows as close to the vegetable seedlings as you dare. This will leave you with just a strip an inch or so wide to hand weed. Wear thin rubber/plastic gloves.

I sow nearly everything in modules at home. Exceptions are parsnips (carrots-I don't do them) and peas. They are transplanted out into a cleared fertilised bed and have got a good head start and I generally hoe between plants and only occassionally need to go onto hands and knees. 

I use the half tray modules that have 20 cells.

I only have half a plot and don't grow vast quantities of crops andI find this is actually less effort on my clay soil. I have a fairly well managed plot where fairly few weeds go to seed (on my plot-can't say that about the neighbours'!). It also makes me more disciplined about sowing successionally.

Maybe try this is a couple of beds and see how you get on?
