I have another question   Will my chickens get scared on bonfire night and if so, what is the best way to calm them down?

Thanks once again!

Our adult chooks don't usually bother about bonfire night, but I'm a little worried about what the 8 wek old chicks will be like as they are very skittish.

Shut them in and black out their windows.  They'll be OK.  We've had bad thunder storms worse that fireworks and it's not put them off lay.

My girls are, I think, about 6 and half/7 months old now, so have never experienced bonfire night before. So I was a bit worried that they might be skittish too. I guess they will have taken themselves off to bed before the fireworks start, so that is some consolation. And I guess it would be best to leave them there? I was just a little concerned as I don't know what to expect.

I hope your chicks won't be too frightened grannieannie :)

Edited: Ok thanks for that info everyone.  I will do just that!

What about the Ducks and Geese? they are jumpy anyway.  We  will have fireworks about 700yrds away at least at the top of the land and their stable face in different direction.  I have a small radio I can play them some music.  The top of the door is meshed for ventilation should I cover that ?

I can't stand the thought of losing any more animals this week

I don't know much about ducks and geese but covering their mesh on the door will do no harm.  Paying music is an interesting idea.  Let us know if you do it and what effect it has  :D

Our local park has a HUGE firework display and you'll find all the ducks still there the next day after your sndwiches and they dont have cosy houses to hide in!!! I'm sure they'll be fine!!!
