I was having this problem last week. What I did was no corn at all and just fed layer pellets all week, I also put a separate bowl out with crushed up baked shells and oyster grit in 2 sizes!
So far so good. I think one of them just liked the corn better and wasn't eating enough of everything else, maybe?
good luck

could be but i dont remember giving them much corn over the past week or so  but who knows what each  bird eats the most of any of the food  unles your able to stand there an watch them.
they have all just had colds recently an some do still sound a bit yukky maybe that could not be helping .

Are they recovering ok from the colds ?

It may a better idea to give them the oyster grit all the time separately so they can help themselves. Some people put it in a flowerpot.

I know Aunt Sally often recommends limestone flour.

I came on to ask about this very same problem.  My chooks have grit all the time but I have been feeding about one ounce of corn and oats each day.  I don't know which hen it is but eggs are laid with no shell and just a listtle rubbery shell coloured thing on top

Hi lindsays.

Welcome in.

Are you giving them grit on its own or with oyster shell in ?

Do they have layers pellets/mash all the time too ?

We had a softy yesterday and a partially thin-shelled one today. Again, no idea which one laid it but it happens.

If it happens a lot then it could be something amiss. Every now and then seems to be the norm.

Can be caused by heat stress, sudden noise, surprises, bullying, worrying about where the next worm is coming from, the price of peas in tescos, etc.

They're probably striking over the plight of battery hens still in captivity.

Do the planes bother them there ? Or are you not on the flight path ?

the flight path is about 3/4 mile away , in really bad weather they can fly down very low over our houses an that can be scary for us  but nah they dont bother about them at all.

i ues to keep the horses next to one of the main flight path an man that was hell when concorde used to go over even the horses shock

I grew up in Hanworth, and we used to get them taking off over the house when the wind was blowing the right way.

But me and my brother were both plane spotters, so we didn't object ! :D

All we get here are fighters practising dogfights.
