One of my chickens had scaly leg mite late last year, i thought id managed to get rid of it but now her feet are swollen. Im dipping them in surgical spirit and putting on vaseline, will this work or is it time for a trip to the vets?

You could try one drop of frontline cat on the back of her neck, if you have any, it will kill any other mite she might have too

Hi jelly, thank you for that. Never heard of using frontline on chickens but i will give it a go.
-
Its brilliant and works really fast. The vets cant technically recommend it BUT I am not the only one on here that uses it. Its never done mine any harm.....just the critters
-
where can i get frontline from ,it is hard to find in london :?
-
In a really bad case of scaley leg, you might kill the mite but the feet will always remain deformed . The mite secrete a sort of calcium poo which means that the scales are permanently raised.

Thanks bodger, thats great info. Weve had our girls for a year now but you never stop learning about them.
Jellyhead can i only get frontline from the vets? Do i have to go in to the vets and say ive got a cat with fleas and can they sell me some frontline?

They may want to see your cat
Some places sell the spot on version I know our chemist does
Pets at home might too - but I'm not 100% sure on that :?

You could always try the ...
" I kept it in all night ready to be fetched in and would you belive the little critter ran through my legs as I was going through the door
I wont see him again until bed time now, and the fleas are hopping all over the place - please can I have some frontline so I can deal with him as soon as he gets home :D"
Give your local vet a ring you never know they might help :)
Edit : Not that I've ever done the above you understand
