Signs of an old hen
« on: August 23, 2010, 19:36 »
Hi,

My friend thinks she has brought an old hen as it is not laying! What are the signs of old age in a hen, so I can tell her :)

Thank you

Thingy

Thingy, how long has she had the hen? Only they don't always lay straight away when you first get them.
Dont count ya chickens till they hatch!!!!!

They are like old people.
They do not run about as fast and do not eat very  much.
My old hen puts her wings out when in a rush so that she does not fall over!
She does not try to fly very far or often.
She has not laid an egg this year, but I still love her and will not get rid of her as she is a pet. Stop sniggering all you chicken soup lovers!

Thats what I said to her

Thank you everyone :). I passed the message on to her. Maybe now she can stop worrying and we can all get on with our lives ;)

she could also compare the legs of her birds - older ones tend to have thicker legs  :)
Staffies are softer than you think.
