Black cherry trees
« on: May 11, 2013, 18:16 »
Across the road we have two fairly large black cherry trees. I wasn't sure they were edible till we saw someone picking and eating them so we tried jam with them. Nice jam although that's not why I am posting.

Our drive is gravel so all the seeds get dropped and my now 12 year old found tiny trees a few years ago, after making a huge fuss about saving the world with these trees we agreed to let her plant them on in black florists buckets. She did 12 and we hoped they may die off natural which some did however we are still left with 8 growing beautifully in pots. They are now two foot plus and our postage stamp garden has absolutely no room at all.

So how do I dispose off, tell her, palm off these beautiful trees, I did suggest donating them to school as they have several acres of orchard but she wasn't keen.

Freecycle? It would make her feel good to know they can grow bigger in someone else's garden, thus saving the world more successfully?

Not currently signed up but maybe a good idea to look at, thanks.  :D if I had a palace and grounds I'd pop them in but we don't lol

I would suggest exploring the school route again with her, as they should be very pleased to have them

Or planting them guerrilla style somewhere they will be appreciated by the birds in future perhaps......

We have a wildlife area on our site, I say wildlife area with my Tongue in my cheek as it's a weed dumping area. Hubby's suggestion was a moonlight planting session.
