Hi looby, strangely enough I thought the same - bird seed is getting more expensive! I tried a few pellets on the table but they seemed put out and then it rained on them! Might try a little mash when the blessed rain stops falling! I saw a couple of people had success with robins on pellets and mine clean up any mixed corn I use for bribes   ;)

anything to do with feeding wild birds to me seems expensive for what u get , i know u cant give chocks wild bird feed like fat balls and a few other bits .

i have left out some mash with some corn and that got gulped down although i dont know what small birds i am feeding as i only see the bigger birds like wood pigeons an doves on my home made table  :tongue2: a bit of guttering on a board screwed on top of 2 wood fence posts .i do at times get moaned at by some ppl for feeding the birds but there are already there on the alloments as they know theres tons of food anyway but i like to give that bit more in the winter thankfully a couple of nieghbours leave out the right tpye of food for the little birds :D

A bit of mixed corn is fine for the wild birds and during the snowy weather the local sparrows took full advantage of the pellet dish. Lots of seedeating birds learn to follow gamekeepers about at feeding time to eat the wheat put down for the pheasants.

I like to give the wild birds a feed but no way i`m buying mealworms and niger seed for `em . :)

Yes the wild birds will happily take chicken feed, even pellets.

A robin comes and takes layers from my hand most days.  It's thriving on them.
