Tomato Seed......

What was the final decision re saving seed from blighted plants. My Roma had a good grop despite being blighted. I'm just freezing the last of the decent sized ones, some are a bit squidgy so I was pondering on saving some seed.

Surely the seed fermenting process, and the period they are dried and stored would see off any spores.

I know there was a long "debate" about this, but I'm still none the clearer on the outcome.

Hi Sally, it was me who was worried about my tomato seeds, but Munty said the blight won't be carried on the seed, so we will be okay!!!!

id not worry about it ,i ahve some seds in ferment now ,as blight is a external sigh im not sure it would affect the seed .if it did i would think it would be germination rates ... so i had blight and saved some anyways

So what's this about ferment ? I just put my tom seeds onto blotting paper/kitchen towel and leave to dry out. They always germinate no probs.

Ditto, not necessary IMHO.

I saved deeds from healthy fruit of blighted plants last year, germination was very good(100%-ish), seedlings and plants were healthy.... until blight came.

Sometimes I ferment my seeds, others I do like richy and wash them and put them to dry on kitchen towel.  then take them off either once dry, or leave them attached to the towel til I take them off to plant next season.

The fermentation process is meant to kill most disease organisms, hence it's use.
