Title: Greenhouse shading
Post by: vanessa.xx on June 04, 2013, 11:43
Hi I'm after a but of advice I'm wondering if I need shading for my greenhouse? It's gets full sun from early morning and over the last few days has been hitting over 100 degrees BUT there is a big tree next to my plot and it completley shades the greenhouse from about 12.30 - 3.30pm in which it drops to about 60-65 degrees but then hits over a 100 around 4pm and onwards, do with it having natural shading during the hottest part of the day does it need shading? I'm just worried that I'll shade it and then this beautiful weather will disappear and the greenhouse will be too cool? Also it is packed out with various things growing

Hi
I think with extremes of temperatures like that I would be shading my greenhouse and keeping the door open.  The warm air will still circulate inside and keep it warm enough to encourage growth but the direct sunlight will be shaded out and stop temperatures rocketing and possible burning on the leaves.  Plants can't cope well with the stress of such extreme temperature changes.
