Have one! Easy but get the netting ready.

Keepers is a good nursery to look at, yesterday, as winter's over, get on with it.  :)

I got one from Aldi a couple of weeks ago, dirt cheap and a healthy specimen too.

2-3 years of age they start fruiting, it won't be much at first, need to be a bit older to throw a lot at you. That 's only if you don't buy dwarfes on dwarfing rootstock, those will always have less fruit but will have some, it depends what you can accommodate.

I imagine the UK has both sweet and sour cherry varieties, so you 'd need to know what you really want. The sours are best as pie cherries, and the birds adore them. Definitely get bird netting for either.
I mostly get the dwarf varieties which will fruit in 3 years. Mulch yearly with old manure to get good crops. And watch for borer type bugs which love cherry trees.

If you want a cherry to cook with or preserve in brandy (yum, yum) go for a Morello. However if you want a sweet eating cherry you need to find one like Stella.

Regardless of which type you want you need to consider the root stock. If you are happy climbing trees to pick your crop and have a huge garden then don't worry too much, but if you have a small garden and deffo don't want to climb anything higher than a chair you will need to look for a on on a dwarfing root stock.

Best to check with the suppliers, any good nursery will help with this.

Oh and as Trillium says you will need to net them, not always the first couple of years, but once the birds find you tree you won't have any fruit left!!

My OH grew me one from a stone, about 8 years ago, still only a few feet tall but did get a tiny bit of blossom for the first time last year, I think I'll be a pensioner before it fruits though!
