Deltamethrin is a form of Pyrethrum so should be okay.

Hi , Received a poly tunnel 2 years back and tried growing tomatoes . Unsuccessful with only a handful acceptable . High number split , poor quality , skin marled . Having read up on watering I'm not comfortable as to watering requirements . Planted Alicante and Ailsa Craig this time - looking fine so far  . Based Glasgow .
Any advise would be appreciated .

I looked at the powder I used it seems it was deltamethrin based.  I'm gonna go for it and trial the first peas on the kids  :D

The grubs are what the nematodes attack - you'd see small white C-shaped grubs in the compost if you tipped it out for a bit - best to check whether that is the issue before spending money on them

One of my plants was so poorly that I was unlikely to get any fruit so I dug it up. No roots left and lots of horrid vine weevil larvae  :(. I will leave the rest to crop but what should I do then? The plants are only in their 2nd year. Should I buy some nematodes or simply start again?

If it’s a Permethrin ant killer it would be okay as you say you did it earlier in the year.  I think permethrin is active for about 6 weeks.  The residue level would be quite low after that.

Hi All, earlier in the year I treated part of my garden with ant powder, not to eradicate the ants but more to control the numbers.  The area is quite close to the house and I didnt want them migrating inside.

Further compost has now been added on top, about an additional 6 inches deep.

My question now is whether its safe to plant out my pea seedlings in this area?  The kids love eating the peas straight from the pod and I'm worried there may be a residual effect from the powder.

I'm leaning towards it probably being ok but I thought I'd seek advice on here.

Cheers

Mixed bag today, switching between bright sunshine and threatening rain clouds pretty quickly due to the freezing wind which isn't nice to be in at all.

I've switched the central heating back on, feeling cold makes my old bones ache  ::)

Grow Your Own / Re: Daily harvest 2024

Broad beans, down south in Georgia, USA!!

I did manage to harvest a few for eating! I know it's not much, but they have a can't-be-grown-here reputation in my state.  These were grown from seeds of a lone plant that survived a -14 C freeze in December 2022 (Windsor variety, I call these Windsor -'Hardy').

Any other beans I get this year will be saved for next year.

Agua dulce that I tried to also grow this spring never got off the ground.  Maybe try some more of those this autumn?

Added later: I de-podded them and blanched them per instructions online. My verdict: delicious! Nutty, creamy sweetness, like peas, but better.  They will be a protein topping a salad tomorrow.  Mrs. Sub_p is a bit suspicious of unfamiliar vegetables, I'll see if I can get her to try what she calls "those weird beans".
