Colour of egg yolk.
« on: August 17, 2008, 15:21 »
I have four ex batts and it is one of them that is producing this egg.  We do not which one.  The OH said yesterday that one of the eggs once Hard boild did not peal well.  I had a lemon yellow yolk.  Making scrambled egg today I noticed this egg!!

Could there be anything wrong with her?

Is it just me being paranoid?

Stuart

If eggies are really fresh they are impossible to shell
you get huge chunks of the egg coming off as well as the shell

I wouldn't be overly concerned

She might not have been eating the same type of grass or summet :D

Get them on grass and you'll see that yolk colour alter for the better.

The pellets might contain a 'yolk enhancer' for the colour. Is she eating her fair share of that ?

But grass or greens are better.

I recall reading somewhere that the colour is only dependant on the feed they have and is no reflection on the 'goodness' of the yolk.
You'll never peel a fresh egg!
Life is good

I have a new hen which started laying a week ago. Her yolks are very pale yellow. She eats the same as the others including greens and grass.
The others produce startlingly orange yolks. She is a Goldline.
Has your lemon egg yolk colour changed Roughlee? Could it be a genetic trait?

Well it is hard to tell because she was got by Mr F yesterday.  We where getting about 4-5 eggs a day so was selling them at work.  We had two very yellow ones then that was it.

I think you'll find that yolk enhancers were banned a while back Rob!

But our girls all eat the same stuff, and their yolks come out different colours.  Nothing to worry about Roughlee!!!!
