John has a very good explanation of how to string onions in one of his books. (Not sure which, probably Monty by Month)

I used to love watching Jack Hargreaves!

That looks good too!  If I ever grow onions again, I'll try that.  Usually I cheat by putting them in a clean pair of old tights and hanging the tights up!

Explanations are ok, but I find a visual demonstration much easier to follow...I just thought it might be of interest....

Is the Monty you refer to, Monty Don?

watched Jack hargreaves vidio of how to string onions and had a go this afternoon in the greenhouse with a thunderstorm rageing outside!!!!!!!!!!!
found it a lot easier than plaiting them which is what i did last year
so will definely do the rest of them the same way
