I am waiting for three of my girls to restart laying after molting.  Their combs are getting bigger and redder so hopefully not too long to wait.  Think I will be as excited as when they laid their first eggs as it is a really magical thing.

:D It's brilliant when you get the first egg isn't it. Congratulations!
One of mine started to lay just before Christmas and yesterday I found a tiny egg, so one of the others must have caught onto the idea too.  :D

Second egg today!!

Found it in the run rather than the nesting box - is that normal!?

Also is there a site that shows particular breeds eggs so I can tell who's laid which one?!

Thanks

Andy

yes its normal until they get used to where they should lay (you could always place a dummy egg in the nest box to show them - a golf ball will do if you don't have a dummy egg).
What breeds do you have? Do any have a redder comb than the others? Do any of them curtsey or duck down and do a little dance when you go near them?

Got a bovans nera, Sussex star, warren and a speckledy and I've put them in order of redness of
Comb. I think it must b the bovans. Recently got two new warrens but they're nowhere near laying looking at their combs.

The first egg was in the nesting box so was gutted today when I looked and none was there, then saw it when collecting water feeder in the run! Maybe the other chooks were sheltering from the rain and wind!

I am glad you told us it was the hen that laid your first egg!  At firdt I thought a miracle had happened!

Your ladies will soon catch on to laying inside - especially in this wet weather....
enjoy the new taste..
