We have just come back from Greece and and ate very well indeed! I have also realised that it is one of the (few) countries I don't have a cook book for! Does anyone have any good recommendations for the basic but traditional type recipes? We prefer to cook and eat homely food rather than super fancy gourmet if that makes sense?

I like Traditional Greek Cooking from Cyprus- by Julia Chrysanthou it's quite an old book but you can still get it from Amazon

Stock up on tomatoes, tin tomatoes,tomato paste, and everything tomato...... trust me I know, my wife is Cypriot

I bought mine on holiday a greek one , a cypriot one and a friend gave me a set or recipe cards .
try the gyros resipe on the cooking forum i did and it was lovley .

Thanks MoS I will take a look. I am hoping to find one that will also give recipes for santorinian food since they have so many unique recipes. The ones they had over there were in Greek sadly!

Theres usually a stand with different languages  on it, ebay , amazon should have some .
