5deg C here - and that was in our bedroom!
Outside air temperature is 1deg C
Soil temperature at 6 inches deep is 2deg C

Is it any wonder that my rosemary plants look as if they'd rather be somewhere else!

I was out with a school group to an irish peat bog last week.

(& I do hope you're not all slowly buying these bogs in plastic bags as compost )

Anyway bog temperature was about 6 degrees celcius.  Probably lower now as we had snow last night.
