Ordering Seed Potatoes for 2022
« on: January 02, 2022, 09:53 »
Last year I went a bit OTT with my potatoes. We did too well really. I gave away the harvested surplus so no harm done. This year I’m being a bit more restrained, but not a lot.

john one can never have to much of a good thing for better to many than not enough we had a good crop of potatoes and like you we gave some surplus to requirements away but still have plenty to last us over winter and into spring

we where using our own potatoes far into spring last year and they kept well in a wooded potato box that I made that holds around 7cwt  I just kept removing the new shoots periodically but I have to hold my hands up I to went OTT I just couldn't pass the reduced seed potatoes in the garden centre without buying several packs at a time

and every time I bought extra seed potatoes I had an ear bashing from my wife how many seed potatoes do you need >:( well I had already bought 25k main crop but then again I give my friend several k but with the extra seed bought I think it was over 25k

as I've already ordered my see potatoes for this year I think I will be watched by someone every time I see any seed potatoes reduced in the G/C  :D :D

I  have already ordered mine for this year, way back in the Autumn. I even made a note of which ones, and even more importantly, who from lol

Casablanca -  nice and early
Kestrel        - old favourite, good for showing as well as tasting great (2nds)
Elfie             - always like to try something new and this sounded too good not to have some (2nds)
Sarpo Axona  - Blight resistant and going for some larger ones (M)
Sarpo Mira     - never fails (M)

All sounds just hunkey dorey, but if the Potato Day goes ahead at the end of this month, I shall most likely be unbale to resist some other lovelies...... problem is the ground will be filled with the ones I have already ordered ........

Good old Pentland Javelin and Sarpo Mira for me - and that's probably too many now I'm down to a half-size plot  :D

Mine arrived before Christmas and are in the shed.

They subbed Lady Christl as the tubers were not up to scratch, so now got a mix of small packs of Pentland Javelin, Premiere, Belle De Fontenay, Jazzy, Desiree and Sarpo Mira.

It is still 6 kg of seed spuds, but somehow I have kidded myself it is less because they are in smaller quantities

I wanted to grow Anya again this year but can’t find them anywhere. Does anyone know why?

Instead I’ve ordered Charlotte, Pentland Javelin, Kestrel, Swift and Sharp Mira. Far too many but I’m sure I’ll find space!

No idea, strange isn't it? It's a fairly standard variety too.
