Title: have i done the right thing
Post by: karlooben on December 21, 2008, 20:47
i now have 2 girls that have bubbly eyes an they are sneezing quite a bit so today i quarantined them into a smaller section of the run an they have the little shed to sleep in , but i have been reading loads of sites on chicken colds etc an now i dont know if i have done the rite thing as so many ppl are saying that they can catch things from anywhere { i understand that } and that most things are airborn and that they cold also catch a cold from us  :?:  :?:  .
should i leave them sectioned of for a week or so until they are better .

putting a sick bird off to itself is always the right thing to do. It helps to protect the entire flock and lowers the stress level of the bird so they can recover faster.

yep agree with nnbreeder, isolate to prevent further infection of your flock. It sounds like mycoplasma, yes infection is airborne, also carried on shoes, feeders etc. Make sure that everything is disinfected thoroughly that is in any contact with the birds, using Jeyes will be fine, at the sametime a course of antibiotics to your quarantined birds. Aways visit your quarantined birds last -so basically feed your "well" flock first in the morning. Good luck luck! :D
