I'm a laydee too and I love making things.  The best thing I ever did was to invest in some power tools.

Yep!  Many years ago my mum asked me what I wanted for my (20 something) birthday.  I asked for an electric drill.  She refused and got me perfume instead, so I bought one for myself.  It's had repeated use over the past 20+ years - even been borrowed by my mother-in-law.  An additional investment has been a jig-saw.

Now that I have an allotment I'm working up to buying a cordless drill/screwdriver.

Go get those power tools - and a DIY book.

Hi joan, if you are going to get a cordless drill.

I know it sounds obvious but realy do get the best you can afford at least over £100 i am sure BnQ had a deal on Makita or DeWalt at the weekend.

Cheap homebrand drills are just not worth it and you will be buying another in a year and so on.

I saved and got a good Makita for £150 half price out of Travis Perkins  :D
