Mine were grown for far too long in modules and have not got much deeper than tennis balls in length - but their width isn't too bad.  Better than nothing!
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

You're probably on a winner then, Yorkie, as they're very difficult to get out in this swampy weather!

Went down for 'snip digging today as I was getting worried, but luckily as our plot is not one of the lowest, we are not under water ....yet?????

Dug up some decent ones, plus the best carrots for years - albeit only a few from a June sowing: the July sowing is still very tiny and may stay that way of course.

Several plots are inches deep in water and the ater meadows beyond are flooded too

I feel sorry for those with plots under water --it must be very disheartening indeed

Sorry to hear you have to buy parsnips this year sarajane. :(

Prompted by this thread, I thought it best to check ours are OK and I'm happy to report that the samples pulled are fine and one is 27 inches long. :D

Well done you Arugula.  I will use the pitiful thin specimens I have and mix 'em with the bought ones.  Wonder if anyone can tell the difference.

So sorry for those of you who can't even get to your plot to see what you have.

pulled my yesterday but still suffer from canker.

They look very edible to me - nothing a vegetable peeler won't soon cure. I bet, if they've had the frost on them, they'll be wonderfully sweet too.  :)

I'm so impressed with myself for my parsnips this year :)

It's my first ever attempt at growing them and I did everything you're  not supposed to do, but I lifted some more today and they're fantastic. The ones I lifted today had a usable length of about 18 inches (I didn't bother with the spindly bit) and are straight and perfectly white, not a mark on them. I wasn't expecting much of this crop but I'm really pleased with them, definitely be doing them again next year. It almost makes up for having to buy sprouts because mine have stayed the same size for weeks and weeks, and just refused to get any bigger.

Parsnips seem quite cheap in the shops at the moment but I'd be surprised if they had the same taste as home-grown ones.
