seriously though is there any point putting vaseline on their combs if they seem ok.  Is this something I should be doing in very harsh weather?

no they dont need it unless they are sore .but put vasaline on thier legs to the feather line as this stops mites damaging thier legs  once a month is good :wink:

Frost bite on combs is a hazard in harsh weather.  A bit like it is for your car.  In the outdoors the frost can 'drop' onto your car windows or chooks comb, but in the garage, carport or coopor covered run the frost will not settle, so no danger (I hope)  :roll:

PS some breeds are more suseptible than others, don't ask me which though  :lol:
