what's this on my marrow leaves?
« on: September 07, 2014, 17:20 »
i've just looked at my marrows and noticed a lot of the leaves have got some sort of mildew/ mold growing on the leaves.

we've had a plentiful crop them (prob too plentiful) and still at least half a dozen almost ready to be harvested.

will the cause of this leave mould get worse and more importantly will it stay in the soil and come back and affect  the crop next year?

or would it be better to get rid of the plants now as i have enough marrows in storage? if this is the case would i be better not to put the plants in the compost?

thanks for any opinions.

It's mildew............. mine get it every year and it has started earlier than usual this year  ::) Having dry roots encourages mildew, and I will admit that I've not watered mine much at all.

They tend to linp on giving a few new fruits all the while there are some green leaves. Once all the leaves have mildew on, then they're for the compost heap  :nowink:

My courgettes get mildew every year too - doesn't seem to stop them producing courgettes :)

thats not too bad then. i'll leave them until they get too effected then get them out.

i've also not watered mine at all, the rest of the soil is getting a little on the dry side as we haven't had much rain recently.

thanks for the replies.

It is just what happens to marrow/squash family plants at the end of their cycle - normally in dry times it gets worse..
