When to plant carrots?

A quick question on when's best to plant carrot seeds.

A chap on my site told me not to plant any Carrot seeds until the second week of June to avoid carrot fly.

This seems a little late to be getting seed in the ground, however I am new to allotment growing and feel this guy probably knows what he's talking about.

Can anyone advise me on this, when will you be putting your carrot seed in? I did put a couple of lines in over the weekend, have I wasted my time?

I've sown some in containers in my poly greenhouse about 10 days ago, and I'm sure the packet said sow outside from March onwards.  I'm sure I read that early amd late sowings were better for avoidong carrott fly, as you'll be thinning bwfore they are really active.

Word of warning, don't take everything the others say as gospel, it's become apparent over the last 12 months that many of the old blokes on my plot, although clearly expereienced, don't always know what they are talking about, I either get conflicting advice or advice which turns out to be patently wrong.  They aren't always up to speed on "modern" ways of doing things!!

I agree, planted my first lot in a container on the patio last weekend.

They're already sprouting, more to plant at the allotment when I remember to take a saw down to cut my bins in half!
