Having a cheesathon here too. Had cheese scones with my soup for lunch, made up some cheese biscuit logs to have in the fridge, little cheese and onion filo pasties for later and made some pastry for a quiche tomorrow.

Love cooked cheese. Yum.

When I can afford it I buy a block of Parmigiano Reggiano and grate it finely then freeze it. Although it's expensive to start with you don't always need very much in recipes - a medium block (grated) has lasted well for a year in the freezer and it's so much nicer than the grated parmesan you buy in little tubs

Best I could find this week was "The Lake District Cheese Co. Mature Cheddar 400g" @ Sainsburys for £1.99. (4.97/Kg)

Im finding the new smaller blocks (350g) very hard to cut thinly no doubt designed like that on purpose.

Can you use a spud peeler Lardman? Makes shavings etc, which are easy to move around, and not as loose as a grater of course!

Thanks for that dandelion.  I bought some parmigiano whilst in France and my friend says it freezes well but goes much more crumblier.  But I;ll grate it first.   Thank you!  :)

Where did you buy that from Mumofstig.  Just finished off all of our Christmas cheeses and feel the NEED for some half price strong cheddar.  Lots needed to pick at and lots for some leek and cheese flans I plan to make for the freezer.  Thanks,

It's Trashco that do this. They have an offer on like this most of the time on one of the mature cheeses. I can't remember the last time I paid full whack for some.

The real bargain is when they occasionally have buy one, get TWO free.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Tesco sell it at £23 per kg, and it's a nasty bit oh nothing with a huge rind, sweating in it's little box
Aldi sell it and it's a nice slice with a smallish rind. Aldi have won awards for their Parmigiano Reggiano. I buy is fresh from them as I need it, no need to freeze it. No need to pre-grate it. Makes a great addition to so many dishes, and at that price you don't mind adding a bit to a soup or even cheese on toast.

I buy my parmigiana from a little deli in Melton Mowbray whenever I go there far superior.
The best I ever had was in a market in Nothern Italy where they let me sample some - I bought a huge chunk  :D

Gorgeous memories of a market near Garda, which had an area about the size of Ipswich, solely selling hard cheese in industrial chunks which needed a forklift to move about...
