Mine are in plastic feeders for two or so days and I have had no problems with freshness.  If it is only a small feeder they will probably need refilling once a day anyway.

i use a Emperor Feeder that holds 70 pounds of feed and a Galvanised Metal Treadle Feeder - 10kg i use 40kg in the emperor and around 15 in the treadle as it holds more than it states but that last me just over a month and never have an issue with feed going off or getting wet but we buy Garvo and it's shelf life is a year were as most feed is 3 month up to 6 depending on brand.

The most important thing is to keep it cool and dry.  If the pellets get wet they can go mouldy and cause all kinds of health problems for your hens.  If they get too warm the oil in them will go rancid and they will lose a lot of their goodness.

But in a cool, dry place the pellets can stay in the feeder for ages without a problem (I leave them in my treadle feeder for 10 days at a time).
