I have 2 chooks that have just started to lay eggs in the last couple of days. one lays a normal size egg and the other lays a small one both are around the same age and the eggs are perfect and shells are good. they are fed on layers pellets and free range all day in the garden is this normal with some chooks and will it sort itself out in time ??

I found with my bantams that they started small, pullet eggs, and as they got older their eggs got a bit bigger

You may also find u get really big eggs as well or soft shell they are just practicing lol until their system settles. mine all did this. my broody who has just started laying again after  nine weeks laid an an egg it was that big i was sure that a goose had got in lol. i had to check she hadn't  prolapsed it was that big she really did show off after that one taking her babies up andshowing them as to say look what ya mommas done

Good above. Also they are individuals and and will all lay slightly different sized, shaped and colour of eggs. We have been programmed by the supermarkets to expect everything to be uniform.
