carrots???
« on: June 08, 2013, 21:11 »
First time allotment holder and veg grower, so please excuse the silly questions :)

99.9% sure these are carrots...

But they have started to flower?

Is this because they are crowded by weed?

I have put another few rows in so not the end of the world if they are useless.

A weed is a plant where you don't want it.

As I assume they wanted carrots, yes then it's a weed!

It's a wild flower, herb or weed depending how you look at it  ::)

In that context ^^ it's a weed, I agree

I have sown some on my plot about 2 weeks ago and just coming through, they are quite spiky looking , I sowed quite heavy  in straight line , difficult to describe but easily find on google images,

watching monty on gardners world he was talking about carrot fly ..... they seem to smell from if I recall half a mile away ? advice was to thin at night oncew there a certain height  , I am a novice and am sure other more experienced growers will chip in

Don't eat it! It might be poisonous

It's a medicinal or dye herb not a pot herb!
