Post by: Celtic Eagle on June 26, 2006, 12:28
Hi Folks

I have a Holly in my front garden which is making a takeover bid I don't want to take it out as it is a really nice specimen. Anybody any idea how to prune a holly other than carefully!!!

Many Thanks

Hi,

Should not be a problem at all. We have a few hollys. The hedges we just cut back mainly in the spring, and they seem to bush up even better. If it is a specimen variety, then summer is the best time, we have one that I drastically cut back into shape a couple of years ago, and since then regularly trimmed once a year, and it has really thickened up. The only thing I have always failed with is transplanting them, they dont seem to like that.  John
