Moving leeks
« on: August 12, 2009, 00:52 »
I was given about 20 leek plants back in May and just bunged them in a space, fairly close together. Wouldn't you just know it! They're all doing well ! Can I move them now I've got spare space or do I have to thin them? Also, when do you start earthing up and how, please?

They should move OK, I've just planted a few more of mine out.  They may not make the biggest plants, but I reckon they'd do better being disturbed to have more space than being cramped in.

Eathing up is not neccessary if you drop them into a 6" (or more)  dibbed hole and water well after transplanting.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?
