Doing it her way!
« on: July 05, 2010, 17:24 »
Hi all,

Some of you are aware that our little Olive hatched out 8 chicks almost 2 weeks ago. They have been in the main run with the big girls, but have their own nursery ward for the night that they share with Olive whilst the big girls go off into the coop.

Until last night!

Couldn't find Olive and 6 of the chicks until I searched the main coop and found them all tucked up in one of the nest boxes, quickly joined by the remaining 2. The big girls seemed a little surprised when they went to bed but all seemed ok and there were no unpleasant incidents during the night.

I've heard that they should be kept separate for a few weeks, and I did leave them last night as I didn't want to disturb them. Olive obviously hasn't read the book on raising chicks and thinks she knows best. Should I let her carry on like this, or risk losing a few fingers and move them back to the nursery? ???
