Title: May I introduce you to Mr Superslug and family.
Post by: Goosegirl on July 15, 2019, 12:23
For some reason, this year we've had a few rather large slugs inside which is very annoying to say the least! I spotted a big yellow one on the bottom of our store cabinet and thought it was the one eating our cats' food but no. I then went on a trail  ;) and put a few pellets down where the cats couldn't get to them and finally caught a big black one - hoorah - but no! There's still one or possibly two that have eaten all the two lots of pellets I put down last week and judging by the size of their tell-tale signs they are massive!  Anyone else had this unusual invasion?

I did have a couple of nasty yellow ones last year, they were in a very dark and damp spot.   This year, I have slug trails across the paths from watered pot to watered pot and pellets aren't dealing with them.   Have the pellets had something removed from them so they are not so potent ?  Poor you Gg, they really are most unpleasant.   Mrs Bouquet

We get smaller ones close to a basin drain outlet inside.

I guess that they get in somewhere next to the pipe in the wall, and I just chuck a few slug pels at them for good measure, then they go down the loo!

That tends to work; so far...

I put some more down the other day but not too many as that can strangely encourage them but I still had slime trails on my carpet between the main house and the extension so I gave it another Dyson-ing. I'm not aware of any water invasion from underneath so they must be getting through the stone walls!  If you've ever watched Thora Hird in "Lost for Words" you'll know how I feel!

Used to put mousetraps in my shed baited with fishfood pellets as i had seen mice taking the food that bounced off the lilypads .
Caught two humongous black slugs in the traps which made a right slimey mess !

I have got an alpine planter, which is dressed with small shingle.   The slugs (and snails) are eating the middle out of a houseleek.   So much for them not crossing anything rough.  ???  Mrs Bouquet

Blow me, they're still at it! Maybe a little sprinkling of salt wouldn't go amiss but I'm not holding my breath.
