One of our bantams has gone broody so I was thinking of getting some  hatching eggs for her. I looked on ebay but there are none within 10 miles of my postcode so thought I would ask on here as I dont trust the post for this. So, does anyone around Derby have any fertile eggs available please, or know of someone to go to?

Hi,
I wouldn't trust broodies to stay broody at this time of year, natural instincts will kick in and she will leave the eggs, as the weather gets colder she will realise this is not the time to rear chicks.

I agree with Michelle, Spud.  Also even if she did sit for the full 21 days you are more than likely to have to bring the hen and chicks inside to keep them warm and dry.  In my experience chicks just don't seem to do as well if they hatch late because they are struggling to eat enough to stay warm. 

I would suggest turfing her off her nest and breaking her broodiness until the spring :-)

Of course if you do get some eggs and she does hatch them then good luck and remember to post some pics!
