onions when do i have em out?

hi my onions are now diying down when do i dig them up and leave them on a rack to dry? or is there something that i need to do before diging them up?

most people of got theirs up now, I think the weather is playing a part in that they dont want them standing in puddles.

so i just dig em up? and lay them on a rack to dry out then tie them into bunches? :?

yep, might be worth putting some kind of cover over them but not touching, so the air can get to them and keep the rain off. Have the bulbs formed to the size you want? if they are still small and your ground is not under water then leave them a while longer.

Mine are not a bad size, but not dying down yet, so they stay where they are for now. Pleased with the shallots so far, up to 10 or 11 per plant on most!

wow, mine not doing owt like that, think about 7 is the best but they are massive, more like onions.

My first year for shallots the red sun have approx 6-8 large bulbs but the golden gormet only have approx 3-4 small ones and they are very green.

Take care when harvesting onions and shallots since broken or damaged foliage is a prime site for an attack of neck rot.

Last year I only got 2 or 3 on each shallot, or in some cases the one I planted, only bigger!!!! lol
