In a bid to use less sugar and salt, I want to start adding these herbs to my cooking but don't quite know what to do with them, any ideas??

Hi Poolfield2

I have Sweet Cicely in the garden and often add fresh leaves to stewed fruit while it cooks. It does reduce the amount of sugar you have to use. I did try drying leaves, but they did not seem to work in the same way.

Once it flowers, you get seeds forming and if you pick them while they are small & green you can eat them raw. They taste like those little licorice comfit sweets and you can chop them up & add them to fruit salads.

Not tried Savoury so that's the limit of my experience.

I like to add summer savory to casseroles instead of thyme - particularly if they have beans in them.  Nice flavour and reduces the windiness, if you know what I mean!   ::)  Haven't noticed that it results in the use of less salt ...  sorry.   :(

Thanks both, I'll have a go, I believe Sweet Cicely is one of those that once you've got it, you've got it for life
