Perennial Germination times.
« on: May 04, 2014, 21:14 »
Hi all on the 23rd April I bought 2 tubers each of Echinacea Magnus, Echinacea White Swan & Rudbeckia Goldstrum. I planted them all the very next day as per box instructions. The tubers were quite dry and didn't look that great but I went ahead and planted. It is 9 days now & not a sight nor sound from any of the tubers!

Am I being a bit hasty? Or should they be through by now.

Thanks for any replies.

I'd have thought a bit more patience might be worthwhile  :)
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Thanks Yorkie, that's what I'm thinking it's just that I've not really grown many flowers. Up to now I've only grown Veg on the plot and we don't have a garden at home.

To help them along if you buy roots like this again: I usually soak them in water for an hour or two before planting.

This way, they shoot a little bit faster I've found.

And yes, it is a bit soon for anything to be showing above ground yet, so don't worry  :D

I suppose you could have a gentle furtle with a finger to see whether there's any signs of activity under the soil level.  Bear in mind that they may well seek to establish roots before sending up any shoots.

Still no show unfortunately.
I bought them from Homebase who say they will refund but that means I will have to wait until next year to re plant   :(

I have had little luck with these packaged roots, unless I buy them as soon as they get to the shelves. So disappointing, isn't it?

Hi All,
Nothing much has appeared except this little plant. It is growing ion the spot where I planted the Coneflower's but is it a Coneflower or is it a weed? If it is a Coneflower it is the only one of 7 to germinate.

I've done a quick internet image search for coneflower seedlings, and it does look as though it might well be one of those  :)
