Quick no dig potato question
« on: June 01, 2009, 21:05 »
I've not got time at the minute to earth up row upon row of spuds, but I have a huge pile and growing of mown grass. I hasten to add the grass comes from a source which assures me no weedkillers have been used, and he's pretty reliable.  :)
So all those no diggers can I use it as a heavy mulch ? if so do I just bung it on all over the foliage etc or what ?
I also have a very large mound of partially rotted guinea pig bedding and more coming is that of any use on the spuds
He who asks is a fool for five minutes, but he who does not ask remains a fool forever.

I would think the slugs that will come with that lot, will eat the tattys before you can get them lifted. I would earth up a few rows at least.
always have a target
and an objective.

I used straw but it blew all over the place  :D  Grass is fine and I think ok at the moment as slugs are not as plentiful owing to this lovely dry spell.

Fresh grass mowings heat up a lot.  Watch out that you do not get baked potatoes!

Hi,

I've got beds this year so I'm short on spare earth, is it ok to use grass clippings to keep the light from my potatoes?
