Thats terrible for you.  As you start calving  as well, just to add to the stress.   Its  double the upset when the results come back clear.  You can understand why so many farms are giving up .

Thanks for all your good wishes. At least they're letting us keep the girls that have to be sent off until they calf. First heifer calved last night - nice little heifer calf. Fingers crossed they are all that straight forward

I`m surprised DEFRA are allowing you to let them calve. On the farm where my son works they tested 500 head last Tuesday and Friday, fourteen reactors, and they`ll be gone early next week.

I think you are allowed to let them calve if the cow is 4 weeks or less from her due date but then everything is on standstill until that animal goes.

We have a suckler herd and have only ever lost one to TB and she was just weeks away from calving so we kept her.  We let the calf suckle for 8 weeks before she went but it was heart braking and we said we would never do it again.  Then you have to start all over again and go through the two clear tests. We kept the calf to 30 months and it went clear every time.
Touch wood she is the only one we have ever lost but the stress of the test make me ill.

Our so called reactor calved (heifer calf) and was sent off a couple of days later. There were no lesions and the culture was clear! We no more have TB than England winning the world cup but we will still have to go through two clear tests before we can start movement again. No showing for us again this year.
