The latest addition!
« on: May 20, 2010, 23:16 »
Both of my muscovy girls went broody about 5 weeks ago so I let Ruby and Jemmima sit on some of our own fertile runner and kahki campbell eggs, the dads could be cayugas Vic and Bob, Dibble the khaki/blue swedish or Pato the runner! but yesterday morning this is what we found in the duck house!

thinks her guardian angel`s gone on strike !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Little Buttercup took a day to get to his feet, but now is running up and down the run looking for ways to escape (I tried to explain to him that he would only escape into the jaws of a waiting cat but he didn't listen...). Hopefully it was just a tiring hatch and will be up an about with the other duckling soon.

I managed a quick sexing while mum was stuffing her face  However, I'm not 100% I got it right so will sex again at a week when they are less breakable!

Baby number 2 is on its feet with its head finally up, although it is VERY wobbly still and have found it twice outside the duck house (once having a swim in the pond on its own!!!!) and ive had to pop it back in with mum! hope she doesnt give up on it and keep leaving it alone, it does snuggle under her as soon as i pop it back, so fingers crossed!

Introducing......................! Pingu! (named so, as everyone that saw the pics though it looked like a baby penguin!)

looks like baby may be coming on holiday with us as mum still has eggs unhatched (although very close as candled tonight) and seems more interested with them than little pingu, who twice has ended up in the other run with the big ducks trying to snuggle up to them :O(
