Title: Cornish/Indian Game.

Hello to all,

Does anybody out there know of a breeder of Cornish/Indian Game, I would appreciate any information, what I need are the cast outs that the show breeder does not want.

The show breeders breed for really short legs so the birds look like a rugby ball shape and very low to the ground. What I want are the ones (especially the cock birds) are the ones he disregards with the longer legs.

Now my reason, years ago before the Hybrid, we crossed the Cornish Game cocks with Light Sussex Hens to produce a meat bird which are sex linked. When the hybrid started in the 50's (I think it was the 50's) all the very tasty breeding Ideas fell by the wayside. Being sex linked means you could separate cockerals and pullets and feed to fatten on different diets, the hens also are good free rangers, the old farmyard chicken that survived on scraps it found in the yard and put in the pot later.

I used to breed and keep these birds for the same purpose and wish to again so any help would be great and if others are interested in trying this I am here and willing to help.

Grannie Annie got a cornish Game cockerel to do this but sadly he hasn't managed to the deed (legs not long enough  ::)), it might be worth having a chat with her to find out where she got him from.

The leg thing is the key to fertility, we achieved 90% fertility and near to that in hatchability, there are a lot of problems with these close bred breeds, I wish to out breed mine when I get them. It will probably help the breed to survive without that many problems.

I knew a bloke who used to keep Indian Game and crossed them with various other breeds for the meet as well. He said that the cross with the Faverolle was his favourite choice.

I wonder if they are sex linked.
