Ground in my allotment I turned it over last year now I知 getting weeds coming up how do I get rid of them do I ploughed them in again thanks

Hoe them off, unless it's something like nettles which need the roots to be dug out, or they keep regrowing.

when I plough my ground to overwinter the spring cultivation usually gets rid of the surface weeds but if I get couch grass or perennial weeds nettles docks etc then I use roundup  its cleaned up my ground very well  and although I didn't winter plough last year because of ill health the ground only has surface weed that will plough in when I plough it shortly

As others have said, as long as you don't have couch grass, ground elder, docks or perennial nettles you can either hoe them off or cover with a mulch of some sort.

Can I hijack this slightly and ask if anyone has any tips on dealing with ground elder? It痴 a new one for me but I can see its persistent on my plot despite having membrane down for nearly a year!

its obvious your membrane has not worked so why not try a strong weed killer to rid yourself of this ground elder that is a real pest as I said in my previous replies I've cleaned my ground using a good weed killer


I've never used membrane its to costly and takes to long to take effect and it doesn't necessary get rid of all the weeds as you have pointed out

I had ground elder in my garden, the roots were coming in from next door. It took 3 years of repeated digging out of roots in Spring and then applying Glyphosate weed killer on regrowth, during the year,  before I saw the last of it. I even got permission from the neighbours to apply weed killer along their side of the fence, in the end
