Errr inseticide.

I'm picking my beans BTW - sown out of the same batch.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

You can go right off people you know

What insecticide do you use then - thought that was frowned on?

Frowned upon by whom? Werks for me! I hope no one dictates to anyone else on here as to the methods they ought to be using!

I only use it as necessary, not as a matter of course & find I need to use very little. Soap solutions I understand have limited time effectiveness and I don't wish to have to repeat spray about 80 feet of double rows!

This is what I generally use it's pyrethrin based - a natural chrysanthemum extract, but I didn't pay this price for it! I admit have have to use something different for whitefly!

Hardly any flowers, the ones that were there dropped off
...no beans (at home anyway, to early for lotty)

I think Ive hidden them too well from the bumblies :-(

You can use any of the pest sprays which contain natural fatty acids like "Bug Spray".  I use a 2% softsoap solution which works wonderfully.

After a slow, disappointing start, I have now had runner beans every day for Hubby and me (I LOVE them!)  Courgettes too were really, really slow, but are making up for it now.
Blackfly has always been bad on my runners, especially on the outside ends of my bean row, I just wipe them off, they have never been a problem, I just accept that the end plants are for the blackfly and keep them down best I can... they encourage ladybirds, though I have not seen too many of them this year :(
Have loads of tomatoes, greenhouse and outside... they are very slow to ripen.  Very hot here every day for ages, got the perfect, large fruits but not turning red!  have only had 3 ripe ones so far this summer! :?

I know you're the other side of the Island from me, but we have only had one  tom go red for us so far on five plants.  Thank you Brambles,
