Recycling old mobile phones
« on: September 18, 2019, 10:16 »
We appear to have a few old mobiles collecting dust at home, forgotten about, owt of sight owt of mind, you know how it is.

I have come up with a fab idea, and it works

I was a little bored watching the Liverpool game last so I had a look around the google play store and came across an app that uses the camera's on the phone's as a security cam for your house. Dug out three and downloaded the app on all and connected, whoooa all three on line with motion detection, night cam etc and work really well. better than collecting dust.
One is pointing at the front, one in the back and one on my plot (see if if anyone nicking me veg  >:()

I used to use some old mobile phones as part of my CCTV system. They worked very well.
I use a dedicated server and now use dedicated IP cameras. I use Netcam Studio from Moonware.
One thing to be aware of, if you have the Mobiles connected to power, the batteries will get hot from being plugged in permanently.
You may find the batteries may get fat/misshaped and could start to leak. So keep a check on them.

I thought of this, took the back of the phones (Samsungs) and plugged into lower supply (1.1), so far batteries are just a tad warm (just a few degrees) so fingers crossed.

Thanks - think that came up first when I did a quick search but good to hear from someone using it that it works. Will have a look at setting some up for myself.
With regards to the battery getting warm I was thinking of taking them out. I'm assuming the phones'll work through a charger without them but have never tried.
