autumn sown broadbeans flowering already
« on: April 05, 2014, 01:02 »
Hi all,

My autumn down broadbeans are starting to flower already unfortunately they are only about 4 inchs high!

Will they continue to grow now they have flowered?

I have some spring sown ones growing as well which because they have started inside are twice the size already!

My autumn sown are in flower too and they are still growing so I'd not be worrying.  About 50% up on the site are flowering so I think were on the money-  No worries

What variety are they? The Sutton only grow to about 12 inches anyway and those are what I grow as overwintering so they don't get so hammered by the weather.

I do Aquadulce for spring.

They'll continue to grow away quite happily while flowering.
My Autumn aquadulce were about a foot to 18 inches when they started to flower in mid to late Februaury ( rather too early for my liking ). They are flowering profusely now, and setting the first beans. Some are are 3 feet tall, stalks like sweet corn, so a lot of growth since the flowering started. If the weather is good in the next 4 weeks, and the forecast is looking promising, it could be a real early harvest.

Mine are doing really well. Full of flowers. I had 3 spares which I left in the GH, which I've put outside this morning. The bottom flowers have started dropping off and there appears to be no bean under them. Probably a pollination problem with being in the GH. Saying that, I tried to hand pollinate with a soft brush which should have had some effect.

Mine are flowering as well, and are only about a foot tall, although some have grown a bit since last week (Aquadulce).

Mine that have been out all winter are a good 2 ft high. The ones which have been in the GH until yesterday are over 3 ft.
They have only been out a day and they are really sulking.
