It depends upon how much heat you require and what you are going to use it for. An ordinary red 100 watt light bulb maybe enough depending upon what you require .

We got ours from ebay - around £12 i think. We deliberately went for a fairly industrial one as we wire it down to the dog kennel in the winter as well.
