Inedible plants
« on: April 22, 2009, 16:55 »

Ive fenced off my hens and they free range over a smaller area than they did last year. The garden they are in is shady for the best part and only has shrubs in like Hawthorn, Blackthorn, Bird Cherry, Spindle tree and Horse Cheastnut. Now for years there has been a Hosta growing there which the hens have avoided and so I thought to gardenify it up a bit I will plant some more Hostas and Ferns. It looked lovely . . . for a day then they decided after 2 years they actually DO like the taste of Hosta. Hmmm. But they left the ferns. Now coming to my question, bearing in mind its shady, what plants do you have that your hens deffo dont like.
Oh for those halcyon days of England long ago

My ducks don't touch the rosemary but that's about it!
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.

our chucks have had a go at the ferns in the garden, they seem to have a go at everything we have, although they are not too keen on the pyrocantha, possibly because of the thorns.....i was advised, if you want to keep the plant...fence it off...lol
